Cuttack: The Supreme Court Collegium on Wednesday recommended the name of Advocate Savitri Ratho for elevation as Judge of the Orissa High Court.
According to a statement issued by the apex court collegium, Savitri Ratho’s name was approved in a meeting held on January 22.
“The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held January 22 after taking into consideration the material on record, has approved the proposal for elevation of Ms. Savitri Ratho, Advocate as Judge of the Orissa High Court,” reads the statement. Earlier, October 3, the collegium had deferred the proposal for Savitri Ratho’s elevation as HC judge.
It may be mentioned here that Savitri Ratho is the daughter of former Police DG Prafulla Ratho. After completing her schooling, Ratho pursued her Law degree from National Law University in New Delhi.
After that, she started practicing under the former advocate of Orissa HC & former Chief Justice of Patna HC, Prafulla Mishra, who is presently the Chairman of the Goa Human Rights Commission. Later, Ratho was worked as the Standing Counsel of Vigilance.
At present, Ratho has been posted by the State Government as an additional government advocate. With this new appointment, Savitri Ratho would become the third woman Judge of Orissa High Court.
Notably, Amiya Kumari Padhi was the first woman to serve as a judge of the Orissa High Court. After that Ms. Sanju Panda was appointed as Judge of Orissa HC. At present, Justice Sanju Panda is serving as the acting Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
