Hobart: Ace tennis Sania Mirza lifted the WTA Hobart International trophy along with her partner Nadiia Kichenok here on Saturday.
Mirza and her partner achieved the feat after they edged out Shaui Peng and Shuai Zhang in the finals. The unseeded Indo-Ukrainian pair pipped the second seed Chinese team 6-4 6-4 in one hour 21 minutes.
It is Sania’s 42nd WTA doubles title and first since Brisbane International trophy in 2007 with American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
The Indian now gears up for the Australian Open, where she will team up with Rohan Bopanna in the mixed doubles category. She was expected to play the Grand Slam with American Rajeev Ram, who has, since, pulled out of the tournament.
