Sambar Deer Calf Hit By Arrow In Mayurbhanj Village, Dies

Mayurbhanj: A calf of a sambar deer that ventured into Balijoda area from Similipal national park in Mayurbhanj district, was killed after being hit by an arrow.

According to sources, the animal strayed into the village area early on Monday morning. Spotting the deer in the locality, villagers tried to drive it into the human settlement. However, a miscreant from nowhere shot the fawn leaving it with critical injuries.

Frightened and panicked by the attack, the deer calf ran and jumped into a pond.

On being informed, forest department officials reached the spot and launched an operation to rescue the animal. The forest officials also stated that the sambar calf would be rescued after being hit by a tranquilizer and then will be operated, sources said.

However, the fawn succumbed to the injuries it sustained by the arrow, sources added.
