Sambalpur: Hours after a massive vandalism on the court premises by the agitating lawyers over establishment of High Court bench, the police have registered a case over the violent clash and started identifying protesters indulged in the violence.

Sambalpur SP said “we have registered a case in this regard. Action will be taken against those who are involved in the violence. Some lawyers also had not allowed the judges to enter the court room during their protest. They are being indentified.”

Earlier in the day, lawyers and members of other social organizations scuffled with the police during their agitation over demand for establishment of a High Court bench in Sambalpur.

The clash ensued when police tried to stop them from entering the court room to intervene the proceedings. The protesting advocates also didn’t allow the judges to attend the court activities. The agitators allegedly ransacked the court properties and burnt the effigy of chief justice of India.

The apex court today reprimanded Odisha Police for not handling the protest effectively. The top court asked the DGP and IGP-Sambalpur to appear before the court on Wednesday via video conference.
