Sambalpur: Police on Friday nabbed two persons near Redhakhol for their alleged involvement in the murder of Parshuram Pradhan, former sarpanch of Salebhata panchayat in Sambalpur district on August 27.
The arrested persons have been identified as Dashrath Dhala and his brother Rushindra Dhala. Two other suspects identified as Rakesh Dhala and Ritesh Dhala, are still at large.
On August 28, police had arrested two persons- Gobinda Dhala and Hasya Nayak, in connection with the murder case.
The arrested duo, however, has shrugged off all the accusations, but police filed a case against them and forwarded them to court, said a source.
According to reports, the incident took place on August 27, when the six accused intercepted Parshuram while he was returning home and thrashed him mercilessly. Later, when the sarpanch tried to escape, they hacked him to death.
An eye-witness of the incident alerted the locals about the matter following which the blood-soaked body was rescued by the villagers. He was initially rushed to a nearby hospital and then shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla where he was declared dead by the doctors.
The deceased’s son Tuna Pradhan, filed a complaint against the six accused with Naktideula police.
According to police reports, Parshuram was murdered because of past enmity as the former sarpanch provided information to vigilance sleuths against Dashrath following which the officials raided his house.
Dasrath was later suspended from his job and was arrested on the accusations of various irregularities.
So far, four persons involved in the case have been arrested, a manhunt to nab the absconding accused is on, the police said.
