Rourkela: The Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) has introduced QR code-enabled door-to-door garbage collection system to overcome the challenges such as sanitation.
Reports said Rourkela Municipal Corporation is focusing on Micro Composting Centers (MCCs) and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). The RMC has pressed into service the Swachha Sathis, Sueprvisors and several NGOs of the city for sensitizing the citizen to segregate the household waste into dry and wet.
Most of the residents and shopkeepers were complaining about vehicles not turning up to collect waste in time, therefore, the RMC has proposed to fit a QR code enabled waste management system at households.
RMC Commissioner Dibyajyoti Parida said the QR code enabled waste management system will strengthen their initiatives being taken for Swachh Survekshan also.
Parida said individual households will be given a QR code tag and apartments or flats will be clubbed as a single entity with a common QR code. The initiative will be taken up on a pilot basis and ten thousand households and buildings including the Public and Community toilets will be covered.
The new technology-driven system ensure 100% waste collection, Parida said and added that after successful implementation of the pilot project all the households and buildings in the wards will be covered.
The QR code tags work with a feedback system through which the users of the toilets can rate their experiences about the cleanliness and effective management of the toilets.
All RMC vehicles, including auto-tippers, BOVs are equipped with GPS that helps the authorities to track their movement and evaluate the coverage of door-to-door garbage collection system.
