Rourkela: As many as 32 BJP activists have been detained following a scuffle with the police while they were opposing the visit of Senior Congress leader Udit Raj for his controversial remarks on President Droupadi Murmu.

According to reports, senior Congress leader Udit Raj arrived in Rourkela today to participate in a party program. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists hurled eggs at the carcade of Raj near Rourkela Congress Bhawan.

The saffron party workers also showed black flags and shouted slogans near Hotel Shubham opposing Raj’s visit to the steel city.

In the meanwhile, the police tried to dissuade the BJP workers, as a result, a brief scuffle broke out between the activists and the cops. Following the incident, the police detained 32 BJP activists at the scene.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Congress leader, in a tweet on October 5, had written: “No country should get a President like Droupadi Murmu. This is the height of ‘Chamchagiri’. She says 70% of the people eat Gujarat’s salt. You will get to know the truth if you start living by consuming salt.”

In response to Udit Raj’s tweet, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that the words used for President Murmu by the Congress leader are worrisome and unfortunate. This isn’t the 1st time they’ve used such words as Congress’ Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury did it too and this reflects their anti-tribal mindset, said Patra.
