Baghdad: Security sources said that one rocket hit near the US embassy in Baghdad early on Tuesday morning, the first to land in the high-security zone.
Media reports said the explosion could be heard across the Iraqi capital.
The reports, however, said that there was no immediate claim of responsibility of the attack. Tensions reached boiling point in January when the US killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani and Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in a drone strike on Baghdad.
The US and Iraq have hoped to reset the relationship since Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhemi took the reins earlier this month.
The negotiations are expected to set a framework for the presence of US troops, sources said.
