Rice mill in Bolangir raided for illegally procuring paddy

Bolangir: The Bolangir district authorities raided a rice mill near Salandi village under Dunguripali police limits in the district on Sunday. Sub-Collector conducted the raids on the mill at the behest of District Collector Arindam Dakua.

The mill owner, Anil Agarwal, was reportedly procuring a huge quantity of paddy directly from the farmers at a cheap price, instead of buying them as per minimum support price (MSP) from the mandis.

Earlier, a complaint was lodged with the State Pollution Control Board to seal Agarwal’s mill as it was being run even after a closure notice by the board in 2017. Acting on the plaint, the district Collector ordered to raid the mill.

The authorities also found that electricity connection to the mill was also disconnected. However, the electricity connection was re-established in an illegal way.

As many as 2880 sacks of paddy weighing around 1037 quintals have been seized by the district authority and a case has been registered against the mill owner for indulging in the illegal stocking of subsidised rice.
