Bhubaneswar: Rebel BJD leader Rajendra Das who filed nomination for the by-poll to Dhamnagar constituency against the party candidate, has finally been expelled from the party for ‘anti-party activities’.

The regional party issued an order that read “Sri Rajendra Kumar Das, EX-MLA of Biju Janta Dal, Dhamnagar Assembly Constituency, District- Bhadrak has been expelled from the Party for his antiparty activities by Shri Naveen Patnaik, President, Biju Janata Dal”.

The BJD’s action came after Das remained adamant on contesting the by-election against the party candidate as he was denied ticket.

The BJD apparently had adopted the ‘wait and watch’ formula till the last date of withdrawal of nomination. However, Das did not opt out of the race even as top leaders had made all out efforts to appease the former legislator.

Das was a frontrunner for party ticket initially, but later he had to return empty handed as the regional outfit choose Abanti Das as official candidate. The ticket denial forced Das to put up rebellion against the party.
