Ravenshaw sex slur: Panel records statements


Cuttack: A ten-member Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee of the Ravenshaw University here on Monday recorded the statements of both the victim girl student and the accused teacher in connection with a sexual harassment case and indicated that their findings would be submitted in the form of a report to Vice-Chancellor Prakash Sarangi later this week.

An undergraduate student of the Chemistry Department has brought sexual harassment allegations against an Assistant Professor of the department, Alekh Kumar Sutar, following which the committee was asked to probe and report. Pending inquiry, the teacher was placed under suspension on Saturday and debarred from entering into the department.

It was learnt that the victim girl accompanied by her parents deposed before the committee on the day while the suspended teacher after his oral deposition also submitted a written statement to the panel. The committee is also likely to examine some more students in this connection, who have been named as witnesses by the victim girl.
