Ravenshaw sex slur: Panel finds evidence against suspended teacher


Cuttack: On the basis of the report submitted by the Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee, the Ravenshaw University authorities have found prima facie evidence against the varsity’s Chemistry assistant professor Alekh kumar Sutar over sexual slur and referred the matter to the University Statute Committee to suggest further disciplinary action against him.

This was disclosed by the university Vice-Chancellor Prof Prakash Kumar Sarangi here on Friday.

Worth mentioning here that an undergraduate girl student had brought sexual harassment allegations against Sutar last week, following which he was placed under suspension and the Anti-Sexual Committee was asked begin an inquiry and submit a report on it. After recording statements of the teacher and the girl, the committee submitted its report basing on its findings.

“Going through the report, it was ascertained that the allegations levelled by the student are established prima facie and, accordingly, it was decided that the matter will now be referred to the Statute Committee for its suggestions on further disciplinary action against Dr Sutar,” Prof Sarangi said, adding that the suspension order on the tainted teacher would continue.
