Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh passes away; Odisha CM expresses grief


New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar: Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh has passed away in Singapore on Saturday. The former Samajwadi Party leader was being treated there for several months.

The veteran leader was 64. He is survived by wife Pankaja and twin daughters.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has condoled the sad demise of the senior leader. Patnaik tweeted: “Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of veteran leader & Rajya Sabha MP #AmarSingh. My thoughts & prayers are with the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace”.

Singh was born on January 27, 1956, in Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. He was an alumnus of St. Xavier’s College and University College of Law, Kolkata from where he earned his LLB.

The veteran leader was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2016. He was also expelled by SP party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
