Jharsuguda: The Raigarh Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Wednesday granted Chakradhar Nagar Police to take double murder accused Anup Sai, former Brajrajnagar MLA, on a three-day remand. The CJM also granted one-day remand of Burdhan Toppo, driver of Sai, for his alleged connection in the 2016 sensational murder of a woman Kalpana and her minor daughter Babli.
The police had produced the accused duo in the court yesterday praying for a seven-day remand of the former for further interrogation and narco analysis test. However, the court had deferred the ruling to the following day.
As per sources, the CJM has not yet decided for the narco test of the former Odisha MLA and a decision in this regard is likely to be taken after a week.
The CJM, however, has not yet decided on the narco test of the former MLA, sources said, adding that a decision on this matter will be taken after one week. The court has further directed the police to produce Sai before it on February 22, the sources added.
Notably, Anup Sai, prime accused in the brutal murder of his paramour Kalpana Das and the latter’s 14-year-old daughter Babli in May 2016, was arrested on February 13. The mutilated bodies of the woman and her daughter were found near Sakambari plant on Hamirpur Marg near Raigarh in Chhattisgarh on May 7, 2016.
As per police investigation, it was learned that the former legislator Sai was staying with the woman in Bhubaneswar. But when she insisted Sai to marry her and allegedly demanded a share in his properties, the Ex-MLA plotted to eliminate her.
He then took the woman and her daughter to the Chhattisgarh border area where he hacked the duo to death and mowed down the bodies with the help of his driver, to conceal their identities and stage it a road accident.
