Railways to start processing private operators to run passenger trains

New Delhi: The railways have invited Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for private operators to run passenger train services.

As many as 151 trains will be run by private operators once the selection process is over.

The private entities would be selected through a two-stage competitive bidding process comprising of RFQ and Request for Proposal (RFP).

The RFQ process will be for pre-qualification and shortlisting of the bidders based on their financial capacity.

While this reform will attract private sector investment, Railways have decided not to outsource the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and its hospitals. There was a proposal to set up a Rail Development Authority.
