Berhampur: Police have arrested five persons in connection with the murder case of Rabi Pradhan at Dengapadar village under Sadar police station in Ganjam district.

They have been forwarded to court on Saturday. Police sources said Rabi’s badly bruised body was found at Mahuri Kalua Chhak along with his motorcycle on January 19.

Police had initially registered a case of an accident leading to his death, but Rabi’s father did not admit it and lodged a complaint with the police station that he was murdered after being stoned.

Based on the investigation, police nabbed the main accused Tulu Swain who was involved in the crime. After grilling, Tulu admitted that he had killed Rabi along with four others by beating him mercilessly.

Police said the four others are minors and they are sent to juvenile jail. The incident occurred at Mahuri Kalua Chhak on Berhampur-Digapahandi road. Rabi was intercepted on the way and thrashed mercilessly. They broke his bike in order to give the sense that it was a case of an accident.
