Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court on Thursday issued a stay order on the direction of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to Odisha Government regarding the cancellation of registration of Bhubaneswar Apollo Hospitals for breaching the provisions of Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act.

The High Court also asked the State government to not take any action against the private hospital within the given time. Meanwhile, the court directed the hospital authorities to submit a reply before the rights body within the four weeks.

Notably, the NHRC on September asked the state government to cancel the registration of Apollo Hospitals while taking up a petition regarding alleged illegal kidney transplantation.

Acting on the petition filed by rights activist Akhand, the apex rights body also asked the state to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation to victim Anil Kumar Swamy.

The matter relates to alleged illegal kidney transplantation of Anil Swamy by his neighbours namely Raghaba Ram Dora and others by applying deceitful names.
