Cuttack: In a fresh development in the Puri custodial death case, the State government on Monday claimed before the Orissa High Court that the death of K Ramesh was not due to custodial torture.
The government said this in an affidavit submitted to the High Court by Advocate General Ashok Parija. The Advocate General also submitted the post-mortem report of the deceased.
A division bench of the High Court comprising of Chief Justice S Muralidhar and Justice Sanju Panda conducted a hearing on the matter and directed the State Government to submit a detailed status report on the case by the next hearing on January 22.
Worth mentioning, K Ramesh, a resident of Lokanath Road area of Puri town was picked up by police over some old cases. While being arrested he allegedly had a scuffle with the police following which he was hospitalised where he died.
