Provide food, shelter to migrant labourers, MHA asks states/UTs

New Delhi: The Home Secretary has issued an advisory to states/UTs to take steps to provide food and shelter to migrant labourers during the 21-day lockdown.

The states/UTs were advised to take steps to ensure that students, working women from other states are also allowed to continue in their existing accommodation.

The Home Ministry has also advised the states/UTs to make these vulnerable groups aware of the measures taken by the government including the provision of free food grains and other essential items through PDS.

The advisory said this would help prevent the avoidable movement of such people. The MHA has also advised that states/ UTs must ensure that hotels, rented accommodations, hostels continue to remain functional and delivery of essential items is streamlined.

The students, working women hostel inmates are allowed to continue in existing facilities, while observing precautions, the advisory further added.
