Sambalpur: Professor Prakash Mahapatra has been appointed as the in-charge director of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) by the State government, sources said.
The appointment of Mahapatra came after Ashwini Pujahari was sent on an indefinite leave on Friday. Odisha government also served a show-cause notice to the director of VIMSAR and asked him to go on leave.
The show-cause notice was served by the commissioner-cum-secretary, Health, and Family Welfare, Pramod Kumar Meherda.
The Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) on Saturday ended their cease-work agitation after the director of the VIMSAR was sent on leave.
Notably, the junior doctors had been on a cease-work stir opposing his treatment methods and gave the state government a 48-hour ultimatum for his removal.
Following the demands of the JDA, Pujahari withdrew from the surgical practices as the in-charge of Unit-I of the department.
