Lucknow: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has accused the Uttar Pradesh Police of “manhandling” her when she was on her way to meet family members of former IPS officer SR Darapuri and party member Sadaf Jafar who were arrested during a demonstration against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Lucknow.
She stated that police personnel manhandled her by “grabbing her neck” and pushing her to the ground while trying to prevent her from visiting the house of a retired IPS officer.
The Congress leader claimed that police personnel stopped her cavalcade while she was heading to the house of 76-year-old SR Darapuri, forcing her to hitch a ride on a party worker’s scooter.
Upon being stopped again at another intersection two kilometres away, she decided to cover the rest of the way to Darapuri’s residence at Sector 18, Indiranagar, on foot.
Priyanka Gandhi has claimed that the IP Police tried to stop her, she was surrounded, held by the throat by a female cop and pushed by another as she was walking towards Darapuri’s residence in Indiranagar’s Sector 18 in Lucknow.
Reacting to this the Congress slammed the Uttar Pradesh government over police “manhandling” Priyanka Gandhi in Lucknow. The party demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state.
