Private Buses’ Strike Begins In Berhampur, Commuters Face Harrowing Time
Ganjam: The Private Bus Owners’ Association in Ganjam’s Berhampur called for a strike from Tuesday.
Amid the suspension of the private bus services from Berhampur’s new bus stand due to repair and renovation works, bus owners oppose the plying of buses from Haladiapadar. Meanwhile, a meeting between district administration and private bus owners’ association failed to reach any consensus.
The district administration had shifted the passenger bus terminus of Berhampur to a bus stand at Haladiapadar. According to the decision, buses coming to Berhampur from other districts of the State and from outside Odisha were to go straight to the Haladiapadar terminus.
This decision was not acceptable to the private bus operators who resorted to strike, demanding a withdrawal of the order.
Hundreds of buses connected from the city to Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Aska, Phulbani, Boudh and other parts of the state stayed off the road, leaving the commuters stranded at the bus terminal.
Commuters wishing to travel to interior pockets of the district and other parts of the state that do not have train communication had a harrowing time due to the strike.
