Prisoner Commits Suicide In Jharsuguda Sub Jail

Jharsuguda: A convict, who was sentenced to undergo 10 years in jail for rape, allegedly committed suicide in Jharsuguda Sub Jail on Thursday.

The deceased convict has been identified as Subash Rohidas, a native of Brundamal within Badmal police limits in Jharsuguda district.

According to sources, Rohidas was found hanging from a tree with a towel around his neck inside the sub-jail premises at around 2.20 PM today.

Though he was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital by the jail authorities, doctors declared him brought dead, sources added.

Rohidas, who was lodged in jail since 2015 as an undertrial prisoner (UTP) on the charges of rape, was convicted by the court on July 27 and sentenced to 10 years in prison

Reportedly, the jail authorities have informed that further probe will be conducted after the autopsy report of the deceased is ascertained.
