Rayagada: A pregnant woman from Adajhara village of Kodipari panchayat under Kashipur block in Rayagada district was carried on a stretcher for 3 kilometres as the ambulance did not reach the village due to poor road connectivity.
According to sources, a pregnant woman complained of labour pain after which her family members contacted the ambulance service.
However, the ambulance driver expressed his inability to reach the pick-up point due to a non-motorable road.
With no options left, the woman’s family members carried her on a stretcher for 3 km to the spot where the ambulance was stationed.
However, the woman gave birth to twins while on her way to the hospital. While one child succumbed, the health condition of another baby and the mother is stated to be stable. They have been admitted to a hospital in Tikiri.
