In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of outrage across Ganjam district, a 17-year-old boy was beaten to death by a group of youths over a minor dispute near a village pond in Khajuria village under the Gosaninuagaon police station limits.
The victim, identified as I Sania, son of I Bhaskar, succumbed to injuries after being allegedly assaulted by multiple youths from nearby Phulta village.
According to police and local sources, the incident unfolded on Tuesday evening when Sania was bathing or washing clothes at the pond. A group of young men from Phulta village objected to his presence, leading to a heated argument. What began as a verbal spat quickly escalated into a brutal physical attack. The youths allegedly beat the minor mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured on the ground. They fled the scene immediately after the assault.
Alerted locals rushed to help and rushed the critically injured minor to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Gosaninuagaon Police reached the hospital, seized the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Acting swiftly, investigators have detained two youths suspected of involvement in the crime for questioning. Further arrests are expected as the probe intensifies to identify all those who participated in the group assault. Police have registered a case and assured a thorough investigation.
