Police traces D-brothers’ link in Cuttack firing case

Cuttack: Even though the two dreaded Dhalasamanta brothers aka D-brothers are cooling their heels behind bars, they are still able to run their crime syndicate unhindered from the jail.

The matter came to fore after the Special squad of Commissionerate police investigating into the firing on a contractor and close aide of the D brothers, Bijay Kumar Pal on February 23 at his residence under the Cuttack Sadar police station, arrested a notorious criminal Mrutunjaya Nayak alias Miku from Bhubaneswar.

City DCP Akhileshwar Singh on Sunday said Sushant Dhal Samant had planned the attack on Pal after he refused to pay extortion money to him.

Singh further said the prime accused Miku had fired at Pal with an intention of killing him on the direction of Sushant, who is presently lodged in Jharpara jail in the State capital. “Sushant Dhal had hired Miku to eliminate Bijay after he denied paying extortion money,” said Singh. The DCP further informed that Bijay was earlier working for criminal siblings Sushil and Sushant Dhalasamant.

On February 23, Miku had called Bijay outside his house at Subhadrapur and fired at him. However, he managed to escape unhurt.

Police said Miku, who was arrested in connection with a murder case, had earlier come in contact with Sushant Dhal Samanta at Jharpara jail.

Sushant had helped Miku to get bail with a condition to bump off some people on his behalf after his release from jail on February 20, police said.

Meanwhile, police have seized two pistols and 29 rounds of live bullets from Miku and further investigation to nab another associate is on. The police would take Susant on remand soon to question him regarding the case.
