Sanitation workers protested on Friday outside the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) office, demanding justice for their union president, Sahadeb Nayak, who was recently murdered in the capital city.
The protest was organized by the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and emphasized the workers’ demands for strict action against the perpetrators, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the incident, compensation for Nayak’s family, and job provision for one member of his family.
The sanitation workers warned that they would stop their work and suspend cleaning operations across all city wards until their demands are met. Notably, Nayak was killed near the Rasulgarh flyover while returning on a scooter after dropping his daughter off at school.
