Rayagada police uncovered a staged robbery within 12 hours and detained an accountant who misappropriated company funds.
Patra Electronics manager Akshaya Bibar informed Rayagada police that accountant Ranjit Kumar Dalai had been robbed near GMD Bakery while carrying Rs 2,32,000 to deposit at SBI. Dalai claimed two men on a Pulsar motorcycle snatched the cash.
Police immediately reached the spot and launched an inquiry. Evidence revealed no robbery had occurred. Officers questioned Dalai and discovered he had siphoned money over several days for personal expenses. To conceal the missing funds, he fabricated the robbery story.
Police recovered Rs 1,20,000 from Dalai and detained him at the Rayagada police station. Rayagada SDPO Gourahari Sahu confirmed the details in a press release. Further investigation continues to determine the full extent of the misappropriation.
