Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee conducted aerial survey of Cyclone Amphan devastation on Friday.
The death toll in West Bengal has risen to 80.
PM Modi was received by the Chief Minister at the Kolkata airport. The Prime Minister is on a day-long visit to Bengal and Odisha to take stock of the situation in the wake of cyclone Amphan.
The cyclonic storm had triggered heavy rains and high-velocity winds gusting up to 190 kmph in coastal areas of both the states.
Cyclone Amphan should be treated as a national disaster, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee told PM Modi at Kolkata airport.
During her meeting with PM Modi, Banerjee is expected to ask for a financial assistance package for West Bengal.
Although power supply and mobile connections are restored in some parts of Kolkata and North and South 24 Parganas, large parts of the state capital continued to remain without electricity.
