New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr.

Taking to his social media amid the subdued celebrations due to coronavirus, the Prime Minister tweeted, “Eid Mubarak! Greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this special occasion further the spirit of compassion, brotherhood and harmony. May everyone be healthy and prosperous.”

Major mosques and idghas that see tens of thousands of people offering namaz on Eid remain empty, perhaps for the first time. Religious gatherings remain prohibited amid coronavirus lockdown.

Eid ul-Fitr is an auspicious festival celebrated by Muslims all around the world. The occasion marks the end of the Islamic holy month fasting of Ramadan. It is believed that Prophet Muhammad got the first revelation of the Holy Quran in this month.
