New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the public to nominate for Peoples’ Padma those who are doing exceptional work at the grassroots but not much known.
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “India has many talented people, who are doing exceptional work at the grassroots. Often, we don’t see or hear much of them. Do you know such inspiring people? You can nominate them for the #PeoplesPadma. Nominations are open till 15th September.”
The last date for nominations is September 15, 2021. The awards will be announced on the occasion of Republic Day in 2022.
The Padma awards — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri — are amongst the highest civilian awards in the country.
Instituted in 1954, these awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year. The award seeks to recognise ‘work of distinction’ and is given for distinguished and exceptional achievements and service in all fields/disciplines, such as art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry, etc.
