Pay Home Guards at par with Constables, Orissa HC directs govt
Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Friday directed the state government to provide salary to Home Guards at par with police constables.
It has further asked the government to pay an interim daily allowance of Rs 500 to Home Guards with retrospective effect from January 1, 2020.
The Court took the view on the basis of a directive issued by the Supreme Court. The apex court had earlier ordered an increase in the duty allowance of Home Guards to the minimum pay equivalent to the scale of the lowest rank in the police.
It is worth mentioning here that the Home Guards do not have any fixed monthly salary. They are paid on the basis of the number of days of duty.
The High Court order will force the government to pay the revised daily allowance to the Home Guards with effect from January 2020. This will benefit 17,757 Home Guards of Odisha.
