Patient Thrashed At SCB: OHRC visits hosp, woman attendant, security officer under suspension


Cuttack: A delegation of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) visited SCB Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday.

This comes a day after a video of a woman attendant and a security personnel beating a patient at the hospital here surfaced on social media.

The OHRC team led by Asim Amitabh Das today reached the hospital and launched a probe into the incident.

Reports said on Tuesday, a women attendant, identified as Sabitri Bhoi along with a security officer had allegedly thrashed an elderly man undergoing treatment at the destitute ward of the hospital. Later, the clip of the incident went viral on social media platforms.

Taking note of the incident, the officials today visited the destitute ward where the incident had taken place. They interacted with the patients and held a discussion with authorities of the concerned department, security officers and attendants.

Besides, the team also gave some suggestions to the Hospital Superintendent and Emergency Officer regarding the stay of the patient at the ward, how to treat him, and to change the security. The hospital authorities have been asked to implement the suggestions at the earliest.

Reportedly, the accused woman attendant and the security personnel were placed under suspension.
