Ahmedabad: Hardik Patel, Patidar quota agitation leader of Gujarat, on Tuesday joined Congress at the party’s Working Committee meet in Ahmedabad.
Soon after joining the grand old party, Patel justified his decision saying that he did it for the sake of the state’s interest and its 6 crore people.
He lauded Rahul Gandhi for his leadership. Party sources said Patel might contest the general elections from Jamnagar constituency against Poonamben Madam of the BJP.
The Patidar quota leader hogged the headlines in 2015 for spearheading the Patidar reservation agitation.
During the 2017 Gujarat Assembly polls, when Congress secured 77 seats out of the 182 seats, Patel had openly backed the party.
