Panic grips locals as elephants enter villages in Keonjhar
Keonjhar: At least 30 wild elephants strayed into the forest ranges in Keonjhar district and triggered panic in the nearby villages.
Sources said a herd of around 20 pachyderms strayed into Kusumita area under Sadar forest range. Similarly, the locals of the areas near Bit Jagunalia in Naranpur spotted at least 10 jumbos roaming in the area.
Locals alleged that the jumbos entered into the village area and pulled down the walls of several houses.
On being informed, forest department officials and police reached the spot and initiated an operation to keep away the jumbos from human habitations.
Reportedly, four teams have been formed to monitor the movement of the pachyderms and drive them away into the wild.
