Beijing:  Authorities in China are in a state of panic after a mysterious SARS-like virus has spread around the country, according to media reports.

Reports said the new coronavirus strain, first discovered in the central city of Wuhan, has triggered panic due to its connection to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

Although no human-to-human transmission was confirmed so far, the authorities said the possibility “cannot be excluded”.

Health reports said a third person was confirmed to have died. In Wuhan 136 new cases were found over the weekend, the reports said. Three were reported overseas, two in Thailand and one in Japan.
