Angul: Angul forest department personnel rescued a pangolin from Patamund village under Palalahada police limits in Angul district and arrested four persons in this connection.
The accused persons have been identified as Santosh Mahakul, Kailash Nayak, Gananath Nayak and Munna Munda of the same locality.
According to sources, the rescued pangolin weighs around 10 kg and its cost is estimated at approximately Rs 2 lakh. Sources said the animal was likely to be transported to a foreign country and the accused persons had kept the pangolin at a house nearPatamund village for the last two months.
Acting on a tip-off about the smuggling of the animal, a team of forest department personnel conducted a raid in the village and rescued the mammal.
Meanwhile, police are interrogating the detained persons to elicit information, under what circumstances the animal came to the village.
