Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested the driver of the Hyva truck involved in the deadly accident at Palasuni in Bhubaneswar.
The arrested hyva driver has been identified as Soubhagya Ranjan Patra and has reportedly confessed that the accident was a result of his overloaded vehicle.
According to police, the hyva truck driver has been nabbed this morning from Begunia area of Khordha district on charges of negligence, reckless driving, over-speeding and carrying goods more than permissible limits.
The accident was a result of an overloaded tipper which was driven by Patra. A CCTV camera on a commercial establishment captured the sequence of events that led to the horrifying crash, clearly showing rash and negligent driving, said police officials.
While Patra is in police custody, and a precious life lost, Palasuni mishap is an alarm for the enforcement authorities to check overspeeding and overloading on the flowery overbridges bisecting Bhubaneswar, along NH 16.
It is to be noted that a government engineer, identified as Sumanta Das, was killed in the accident where his rammed by the speeding hyva truck. Subsequently, the hyva tuck hit Sumanta’s car crushing it between the two trucks. As a result he lost his life on the spot.
