Pakistan’s Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri Resigns Ahead Of No-trust Vote Against Him

Islamabad: Pakistan’s National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri tendered his resignation from the post, moments before the no-trust vote against him on Saturday.

Suri shared a copy of his resignation on his official Twitter handle and stated that his decision to quit the Deputy Speaker post signified his affiliation with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), and democracy.

“We will never compromise on Pakistan’s sovereignty and integrity. We will fight for the country’s interests and independence. We will go to any length to protect Pakistan,” he added.

PPP’s Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was elected as National Assembly speaker.

Suri came under heavy criticism for dismissing a no-confidence vote against former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
