Jammu: Heavy firing continued between India and Pakistan across the Line of control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Thursday, Defence sources said.
According to defence spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling mortars and firing small arms at around 6 a.m. on Thursday.
The shelling and firing continued all along the Krishna Ghati sector, Anand said.
He said the Indian army retaliated effectively and strongly. Exchanges of fire stopped around 7 a.m., he added.
According to reports authorities have closed down all educational institutions within 5 km of the LoC and the international border in Rajouri, Poonch and Samba districts in view of the tension between the two countries.
