Pakistan: 16 killed as Karachi-Rawalpindi Tezgam express train catches fire

Islamabad: At least 16 people were killed while 13 others were injured after a major fire broke out in Karachi-Rawalpindi Tezgam express train in Pakistan on Thursday.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Thursday when three coaches of Karachi-Rawalpindi Tezgam express caught fire in Liaqatpur near Rahim Yar Khan. The train was on its way from Karachi to Rawalpindi.

As soon as the incident came to fore, a rescue operation was carried on and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.

While the exact cause behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the fire triggered from the explosion of a gan canister used to cook food.
