Paika Vidroh bi-centenary: CM seeks Express train named after Buxi Jagabandhu

Bhubaneswar: Amid the bi-centenary celebration of Paika Mutiny, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today wrote a letter to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu requesting for introduction of a new train between Bhubaneswar-Mumbai named after the chief architect of the historical event Buxi Jagabandhu.

In his letter, he seeks introduction of a new AC Express train from khurda Road Station.

I would be privileged to convey the emotions of the people of Odisha to commemorate Buxi Jagabandhu’s contribution in the historic Paika Rebellion by introducing a new AC Express train from Khurda Road Station to the dream city of Mumbai. This will pose to be a great tribute from Railways to the leader and the glorious event of Odisha, Naveen wrote in his letter.

Buxi Jagabandhu was the chief of the forces of Khurda Garh. The Paikas fought relentlessly against the British in 1817 much before the sepoy mutiny in 1857.
