Over 4 Kg Pangolin Scales Seized In Mayurbhanj, One Held

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch on Friday seized pangolin scales over 4 kg and arrested one person in connection with the case.

The accused has been identified as Suren Purty of Balichua village in the district.

Acting on reliable inputs about a deal of sale of pangolin scales by wildlife criminals, the STF team along with the forest officials of Baripada Forest Division conducted a raid near Balichua village under Sarat PS and arrested the accused person.

During the search, 4 kg 820 gms pangolin scales and other incriminating materials were seized from his possession.

The accused person could not produce any valid authority in support of the possession of pangolin
scales, for which he was detained and handed over to forest officials for necessary legal action at their end.

During the last one year, Special driver against the wildlife criminals/poachers have been launched, STF has seized as many as 14 nos Leopard skin, 09 nos Elephant Tusk, 02 deer skin, 03 live pangolins, and 10 kg pangolin scales and arrested 27 wildlife criminals.

STF is the specialized wing of Odisha Police to curb the organized crime in the State. Wildlife crimes remain one of the focus area of STF and STF will continue its drive against the wildlife crime and criminals
