Gunupur: Padampur police on Wednesday seized a huge cache of ganja from a cashew peel-laden truck in Rayagada district and arrested a person in this connection.
The arrestee has been identified as Mohammad Aaslim Khan of Hasanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
As per reports, a police team was engaged in motor vehicle checking when they intercepted the vehicle. Upon searching, the cops seized around 307Kgs of ganja stashed in seven gunny bags.
After the preliminary investigation, it was found that the contraband was being smuggled from Jeypore to Uttar Pradesh.
A case (45/21) was registered under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act and the accused has been forwarded to court. Further investigation is underway to trace the accused involved in the illegal trade, police said.
