Srinagar: The Indian Army has initiated Operation Sarp Vinaash 2.0 in reaction to the increase in terrorist activities in the Jammu division, aiming at 55 active terrorists in the area.
This operation is the most significant anti-terrorism effort in the past 21 years and is under the scrutiny of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), with reports being sent directly to the National Security Adviser and the Chief of Army Staff. The operation serves as a countermeasure to the surge in terrorist attacks in Jammu, which have resulted in the loss of 48 army personnel over the past two years.
An additional force of 3,000 troops, including 200 snipers and 500 para commandos, has been deployed to counteract the terrorist threat. The operation, conducted in partnership with other security agencies, is being reported directly to the National Security Advisor and the Chief of Army Staff.
The army is collaborating with Village Defense Guards (VDGs), who were instrumental in eradicating terrorism in Jammu from 1995 to 2003. With their deep knowledge of the local terrain and challenges, these VDGs are aiding the army and security forces in navigating the difficult terrains where terrorists are believed to be concealed.
The focus of the operation is to dismantle the Over Ground Worker (OGW) network that provides logistical support to terrorists, including food, shelter, and arms, thereby targeting the existing network of terror. Concurrently, efforts are being made to prevent infiltration along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC), with BSF and army personnel remaining vigilant.
The operation is active in the districts of Doda, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, and Reasi in Jammu, where the 55 terrorists are suspected to be hiding. The army is resolute in its mission to neutralize the terrorist threat and thwart Pakistan’s attempts to transform Jammu into a terrorism stronghold.
