One killed, one injured in elephant attacks in Dhenkanal


Dhenkanal: One person was killed and another critically injured in two separate elephant attacks under Hindol forest range in Dhenkanal district last night.

In the first instance, an elderly man identified as Prasanna Behera was trampled to death in Tentulisingha village under Kamakhyanagar police limits in the district.

According to reports, Behera was returning to his home last night while he confronted a tusker which had sneaked into the village in search of food. The wild animal attacked Behera and trampled him to death on the spot.

In a similar incident, another elderly man was critically injured in Kalinga village under Hindol Tehsil, after a wild tusker attacked him.

The victim, identified as Suresh Chandra Pal, was on his way to farmland when the jumbo attacked him. The animal lifted him with its trunk and threw to a distance.

Pal has been admitted to a nearby hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.
