One held for stealing luggage from train passengers, two absconding


Rourkela: Police on Friday arrested a person involved in stealing luggage containing gold valubales from train passengers at Rayagada railway station on December 21.

The accused, identified as Mudala Akbar Ali (35,) was arrested on the basis of the examination of CCTV footage obtained during the investigation.

According to police, the complainant B Satayanarayan along with his sister was on their way to Vizag in Bokaro express train on December 17. During which, the accused persons travelling in the same compartment took away their luggage while they were asleep.

Later, Satayanarayan lodged a complaint with the Rayagada GRP police. During the investigation, it was ascertained that three miscreants travelling with them committed the crime.

However, Rayagada police found out their address through reservation charts and arrested Mudala, while two others involved in the crime are absconding.

The police have seized 13 gram of gold ornaments from his possession while 88.5 grams of gold which he had kept as the mortgage was also seized.
