Bhubaneswar: Covering mouths and noses with any available form of masks when going out in public is compulsory for the populace of Odisha from today.
Odisha has become the first state in the country to make it mandatory for all its citizens to cover their mouths and noses while going outside of their homes for any purpose. They can use a face mask to a double-layered cloth to cover their mouths and noses.
The directives came into effect from 7 am on April 9 and will remain in force till further orders.
The order explained how the use of maks has been extremely useful in containing the spread of coronavirus as seen in other countries. The order further stated that COVID-19 is becoming a grave threat to the public health in the state.
The state government has direct all district municipal authorities to make sure that there are no crowds in public places and ensure that all people stepping outside are abiding by the directions issued by the government.
Wearing surgical masks in public spaces may help limit the transmission of viruses, including the one that causes coronavirus disease or Covid-19, a new study published in the the journal Nature Medicine had said.
