Odisha Vigilance arrests Asst Engineer for accepting bribe Rs 15,000
Sundargarh: Vigilance sleuths today arrested an Assistant Engineer of Odisha government on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 to clear a security deposit of a contractor.
According to reports, Jageswar Sharma, power of attorney holder of contractor Prafulla Kujur had approached the officer of Biramitrapur Municipality to release his security deposit money Rs 1,10,000, was deposited by him towards the execution of seven developmental works.
However, Chakradhar Bhuyan, Assistant Engineer of Biramitrapur Municipality, demanded Rs 15,000 as a bribe to release the security deposit.
Jageswar reported the incident to Vigilance, Sambalpur Division, following which a trap was laid to nab the engineer.
Around 1:35 pm this afternoon, while Chakradhar was accepting the bribe money Rs 15,000 from the complainant, Vigilance sleuths caught him red-handed and recovered the money from the drawer of his table.
Vigilance has registered a case and raids were on at his official residence at Biramitrapur and ancestral house in Bhadrak town.
