Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory to Collectors on Saturday in view of IMD’s warning about the low pressure over Central Bay of Bengal on October 19.
The IMD in its latest prediction has said after its formation, the low pressure area is likely to become more marked during the subsequent 24 hours.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some districts of Odisha between October 19 and 21, the IMD added. Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely over Central Bay of Bengal from October 19 to 21, the IMD said and warned that during the period, fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea.
The Odisha SRC said that the rainfall could trigger flood in the river systems in the Southern districts. Jena added that such parts of the state might experience landslides. He urged the Collectors under Southern Division to make advance planning and remain fully prepared to meet any eventuality.
Collectors of other districts were also asked to closely monitor the situation and take appropriate accordingly.
